Murphy loves swimming
We just revisited one of our all-time favorite hikes, Silver Dollar Lake Trail. The mountains are blooming with wildflowers and at 11,000 feet it's cooler than in town. I have to say it was a lot more crowded than I remember - especially for a Monday! I guess the secret is out. It's no wonder because it's relatively close and Guanella Pass is freshly paved. The drive up to the trailhead is stunning. We even saw a family of mountain goats crossing the road. Baby mountain goats are super cute!
Murphy stayed on leash during the hike because there are marmots, pikas and steep cliffs. Actually, we always keep him on leash when hiking. He is Mr. Curious so it's damage control. Remember, this is the same dog that ate a rock and needed emergency surgery to get it out. Best to keep him on leash. However, he is trustworthy and completely focused if there is swimming involved. So, we let him swim in Silver Dollar Lake. Happy dog!
We were all drenched by the end. Murphy always runs straight up to us to drop the ball and then shakes.
Funny sidenote: I was telling an out-of-state friend about Guanella Pass and she thought I said Granola Pass. I think I'm going to call it that from now on. It's perfect! Colorado really needs a Granola Pass.
